Our April

April is Autism Awareness month, and has come to an end this year. We celebrated our son, Nolan, by wearing blue, decorating with blue and puzzle pieces.

On Autism Awareness day {April 2} a lot came out about wearing blue vs red, whether the puzzle piece was appropriate, etc. We researched and wrote a response.

I struggled emotionally and spiritually and found an amazing book that has renewed my faith and helped me find a great support system (and the author and I have also started following and supporting each other on Instagram).

We fundraised for books for Nolan’s autism center so they can use them as tools to continue to grow! They are picking out $350 worth of books!

We fundraised for Friends of Autism in Strollin’ 4 Nolan’s name and then participated in the walk. Between shirts and donations we were able to give close to $1500. I was not able to participate in the walk being only 9 days postpartum, but Bryce and I went and supported the cause!

The rest of the year

Though we are an autism family, that is not all we are. We want to show you that autism and the awareness is a part of us and a part of MANY families–while we are just a regular family doing what we can for each of our children.

Our goal is to show you every day life in our crazy zoo and maybe give you a glimpse into life with autism. That being said, this is OUR story, and OUR journey with autism. It is likely very different with similarities to other stories.

We don’t want you to unfollow if you do not know someone on the spectrum because it is likely you (or your children) will come across someone on the spectrum. If you are not completely foreign to autism–if you are autism aware, you can become autism accepting, which means the world to an autism family and a person with autism (because children with autism grow into adults with autism).
