No Check Packing- Fitting all you need in

Pack all the things you need (to travel somewhere warm) with out having to check a bag! We do not like to pay for checking a bag if we can at all help it. When we are traveling as far as Hawaii, we didn’t want to ruin a trip with losing a bag. Therefore, we have chosen to forgo packing. This is my second vacation, but sixth or so flight not packing. I have learned many tricks

Wear

Dressing for travel is part of my packing process. I wear layers, and the biggest shoes I plan on wearing. I also try to wear something as one of my layers that will go with multiple outfits on the trip. I also attempt to pack for comfort, easy through security, and pockets.

For this trip I wore:

  • Tank top
  • T-shirt
  • Pocketed leggings
  • Sweatshirt
  • Tennis Shoes
    • Going through security, I like wearing socks for sanitary reasons. I also like socks for warmth on a plane.
    • I want the process through security/TSA as quickly as possible, so I also choose quick slide on shoes
  • Jean Jacket
    • For warmth leaving and arriving in Wisconsin
    • For a layer when out with outfits (air conditioning)
  • Scarf
    • for warmth leaving and arriving in Wisconsin
    • I can’t sleep without a blanket and we have LONG flights, so I wore a scarf to double as a blanket/pillow
  • Mask on a lanyard
    • Masks are required AT ALL TIMES on the plane. This allows you to take it off for eating and drinking but not lose it, it is attached to you at all times.

Personal Item

Your personal item needs to be small enough to completely fit under the seat in front of you. For this trip, we chose to use a backpack.

Liquids/Toiletries

Liquids need to be in a quart sized bag (we purchase) and in 3.4oz containers or smaller.

I have both toiletries bags out when I get ready the last time. I get ready as I usually do and sort my getting ready into dry toiletries and liquid/gel.

One essential liquid we pack, ESPECIALLY when not checking is Downy Wrinkle Releaser. Rolling helps reduce quite a bit, but the wrinkle releaser is a great fabric refresher and get rid of the wrinkles easy.

I really liked using my Jane Iredale powder sunscreen! It didn’t count as a liquid, it was great to throw in a purse, and it reduced the humid/sweat sheen while sunscreening my face. I also used Make up eraser because it was not a liquid and did the job great!

Purse

Getting through security and on the plane there were some key items you need to have easily accessible. I put this in a ring sling purse hanging on the backpack. It is RIGHT there and has all the essentials.

  • I have my REAL ID (you know it is a REAL ID if it has the star) and 1 credit card. I have those in a little coin purse.
  • I also kept gum and an extra mask in there.
  • Only thing not pictured here, that was packed was prescription medication.

Electronics

Electronics are a great form of entertainment. They also can help with touch free check in at the airports. For Hawaii, they were also required with holding our QR code.

  • Phone/watch charger
  • Battery Charger
  • Charger Port
    • This was a game changer! We put the charger port in the one outlet on the plane and charged our phones the whole time.
  • Conversion cords (I have a MacBook Air so I needed conversion cords for USB and phone)
  • Wired headphones (airplane mode on plane)

Food

Especially in our case (9+ hour flight with no food service due to Covid), we needed to have snacks. Snacks need to go through TSA pulled out (at our airport) so we put them in a reusable gallon ziplock bag to put through TSA, and then split between our bags when we got through.

Other/Entertainment

  • Tri-pod for photos (side pocket)
  • EMPTY water bottle for drinks (that can be sealed/no leak)
  • book(s)
  • laptop (needs to be pulled out through TSA at most airports)
    • I probably would not have brought it, but I never get alone time so I had many lofty plans to work on the blog while flying. If you bring, hav cords as well.

Glasses

I didn’t wan’t want my glasses to get crushed so I clipped a glasses case on the side.

  • Sunglasses from London Littles (I have a small head, I wear kids sunglasses)
  • Bluelight Glasses- I knew I would be on a lot of technology so I put bluelight glasses in this case as well.

Carry On

The carry on is where I put all my clothing and shoes. I roll everything to make it fit. Alex also, only does a carry on. He puts his shoes in the backpack/personal item and rolls his clothes. He, too, is very strategic with his packing and packing things that go along with a variety of outfits.

  • Swim suits go in the bag in the top
  • Socks, underwear, bras go in a bag in the top
  • pajamas go in the top
  • Extra leggings to in the top
  • Straightener and brush go in the top
  • All clothing is rolled in the bottom
  • I then add a beach bag/tote, raincoat, and cardigan on top
    • Beach Bag/tote if you don’t want your back pack at the beach with the sand.
    • places like Mexico and Hawaii rain almost daily but its usually warm and short. A rain coat lets you continue to have fun in the rain.
    • This cardigan was worn almost every day. From humidity to air conditioning, cool night breezes, etc. I wore my cardigan every day. Pick a light weight one long sleeved that matches just about everything.
