Decorating the whole home for the holidays
When decorating for the holidays, I like to make it a whole home experience. I decorate the outdoors, the whole first floor, and the second floor/bedrooms. It is amazing how much a home can feel special for the holidays with some lights and garland.
Outdoors

Outdoor holiday decor on the fence, trees, and porch. I try to keep the house classic and then give the kids their fun tree area. We have the outlets in the garage and we have them on smart outlets attached to our Alexa. this allows us to turn on lights with our voice or app.
The snowmen were a gift, hand made by my in-laws. I created the kneeling Santa on my own.

First Floor
The tree is from At Home. It is a 9 foot, pre-lit, stratford pine. Current number is C40. I have moved our colors to champagne, golds, and rose gold/pink this year with pops of the traditional red and green.
I created the layering signs on the mantle and the kitchen shelving. My husband created the pallet shelf on the wall.
We have our lights all on battery timer (starting at 4pm) or on a smart outlet using the Echo Dot.

Second Floor/Bedrooms
We decorate the hallway, playroom/toy kitchen, master and Stella’s bedroom. We don’t do the boys room because they don’t need more lights or Nolan more material to stim on.
The hallway is decorated with pillows I got at Home Goods. The sign and plant holders above that are from Hobby Lobby.
The playroom we allowed Stella to create her own house. I let her pick the location, and ornaments for her little tree. The gingerbread house is actually our latest Hello Bello shipment box! They do such a great job making their boxes recyclable. She helped me decorate her dollhouse as well. She specifically asked for lights in her room and on her bed.
Our master has a garland that is Hearth and Hand but is not currently sold. I found an alternative for about the same price point. The bedding is flannel and though it is too hot for some, we really like it.
The storybook advent calendar is expensive because the season has started already. It is much cheaper if you buy in October for the next year. I do highly recommend this countdown though, the kids are loving it!
Again, lights are on smart outlets on the Echo Dot.

Comfort and Joy
The main goal of Christmas decor is to bring your comfort and joy! Pick something you love and work around it. Use family heirlooms, highlight Santa or Jesus or both based on your beliefs. Pick a color scheme and stick to it. Customize it to function for you and your family.
