Freemie Review

**I am not a rep and this is not sponsored, but I wanted to write a review because I know I was searching for more info when picking my pump and wanted to help.

My insurance covers one pump per pregnancy. I went on the medical supply websites sponsored by my insurance to see my choices. I knew very little about the freemie, but I loved the idea of no cones with bottles hanging off, handsfree and cordless. Being a stay at home mom, I don’t get the pump break so I thought this would be a good fit—and If I hated it I still had my first two pumps.

Likes

  • Cordless-I can hook on my belt loop, robe string or waistband and be good to go. I do not need to be sitting.
  • No special bra needed-it seriously slips right in your cup of your bra!
  • It’s not embarrassing to have to be pumping on the go-besides looking like Dolly Parton, you can’t really tell I’m wearing it. No cones with bottles hanging down. I have been way less self conscious to pump in the car or even while baking my daughters birthday came with my brothers (not ready for children and all that comes with it) girlfriend.
  • You can program in 3 speeds. I created a let down and a powerful suction setting.
  • Packing it is so small and easy
  • It makes less noise than my past pumps

Dislikes

  • At first I wasn’t sure I was getting as empty as I should be to get a good pump in-but the yields are pretty good so maybe I’m getting more than I thought.
  • It’s hard to see how much you’ve pumped-For some this is a good thing and it helps get higher yields with less anxiety. For me, I don’t know if I’ve filled it too far (I’m blessed with a VERY plentiful supply) and need to know if I’ve filled past the max line.
  • Its also hard to see if it’s lined up correctly and the shield is a good size fit (though I’m small so the standard is usually the fit for me).
  • It holds 4oz and sometimes I need more.
  • pouring into bottles or bags can be tricky (especially when filled not to the max line)
  • you need to bring bottles or bags in addition to the pump.
  • the parts can take a try or two to get sealed correctly to get suction.
  • it doesn’t have a programmed early letdown mode like my first pumps did.
  • you can’t bend over too far or you pour the milk out—read “don’t help a sibling wipe” 😆

Overall opinion

Overall I think this is a great pump for an on the go stay at home mom. I am not exclusively pumping and I am not pumping to maintain a supply while working-but to save a little for getting out and for comfort.

Though the dislikes list is longer, they are minor and I feel the likes do outweigh the dislikes.

If you are pumping for similar reasons as me in a similar setting, I feel this would be a good fit.

Hi! So glad I came across your blog, I’ve been having a hard time finding real and honest feedback on the freemie. I think I’m just going to get the cups for $70 and attach to my spectra 9 plus, which I put a hip clip on so I can walk around. My question for you is do you keep the parts in the fridge between pumps or clean each time? Also what is your opinion on cleaning this versus other pumps? Right now, I store my parts in the fridge and then clean in soapy water after my 5 pm pump each day. Hoping to be able to do the same with the new cups. Thank you!

Hello! I am so glad you found this review helpful! I would say it is just as easy to clean the parts as other pumps. You do have to take it apart, but but it is not hard. I don’t often need to pump more than once in a day since I am a stay at home mom, but if I did, I would for sure say storing in the fridge and then the soapy water method you are using would be more than efficient. Good Luck!

So glad I found your post. I do not want to fork out the cost of the Willow and Elvie so I was glad when I came across a more affordable option. The newest version is called Rose and they have SlimFit cups that are less prominent in your bra cup. I will be buying and trying today.
