Earth Day Initiative: Healthy Swaps
I have a strong passion for keeping our Earth and nature as safe as possible. I am a freak about recycling, I don’t want to fill our dumps with more than I have to, and I don’t want to flush chemicals into our water and landfills we don’t have to. Upon trying to do these things, I have found that there are many chemicals you can kick out of your home as well. Here are some relatively easy things we have been doing (though there is always room for more improvement!)

We get one Earth. I want to enjoy it and I want my kids to enjoy it. I want to treat it with care. I want my kids and grandkids to enjoy the miracles that are nature and the world around us how I am able to. I want to treat my body with love. I get one and I want to be here as healthy as possible to take care of my children. I want my children to be healthy as possible because what mom doesn’t wish their child the healthiest future as possible. Also, Nolan has a enough going on, chemical influence doesn’t need to be one. I know there are many, many more ways we can be even healthier and save the earth even more, but trying and doing better is the best you can do.
What is Earth Day
Earth Day, celebrated on April 22, is the largest secular observance in the world. What began as a day of environment preservation in the U.S. is now a large-scale push for clean habitat around the world! Earth Day is proof that one person can make a global impact in a positive way.
https://study.com/blog/what-is-earth-day-and-why-do-we-celebrate-it.html
Since its inception in 1970, Earth Day continues to grow as a worldwide phenomenon focused on promoting clean living and a healthy, sustainable habitat for people and wildlife alike. Celebrating Earth Day serves as a conscious reminder of how fragile our planet is and how important it is to protect it.
Recycle
Recycle whenever we can–I am not sure if this is the best plan of action but if I don’t know if it is recyclable, I error on the side of put it in recycling and if they cant they wont.
Donate
If there is any life in it, donate it. Ask friends, ask family, Goodwill, Salvation Army, rummage sales–so many options.
Reduce
- I personally avoid paper towel at all costs (I use it for bacon, patting meat dry, and dog mess) and use cloth’s when I can.
- When kids are done eating, we have them wash hands in the sink and use a cloth wash cloth to wipe up vs. disposable wipes.
- Use paper or reusable straws vs plastic (Stella is insistent on straws in her chocolate milk). Stainless for adults, Silicone for kids.
Swap
A major goal we have in our home is to gradually swap out toxic/chemicals for healthier options. This is better for the Earth as well as for our bodies.
Cleaning
Cleaning is one major way in which we have been working to swap out. These swaps not only help our Earth, but our home as well.
