Toddler/infant boys sharing a room organization-woodland theme

Routine

After much debate and the idea of moving a lot of things around, the best decision we could come up with was to have the boys share a room. Currently, we have 2 options when it comes to bed time to make this work.

Scenario 1: Bryce sleep first

There are some days when Bryce’s wake/nap schedule has him needing to go to bed before the big kids. We do his bedtime routine while the big kids play in the playroom, and then I put him in his bed, taking Nolan’s pjs and pull up out with me. We read and pray in the playroom, and then quietly go into his room and I sit on his bed until he is asleep to keep him quiet.

Scenario 2: Nolan sleep first

As much as Bryce’s wake/nap schedule can make him need to go to bed early, it can also make him not need to go to bed before the big kids. On these days (and bath days), we get all 3 kids ready for bed together. We then read and pray in Nolan’s bed. I then send Stella into her room and tuck Nolan in. Some days he is quiet and I can go nurse in the glider in our room and sometimes Nolan needs me to sit with him to fall asleep and then I sit on the foot of Nolan’s bed nursing. I then put Bryce to bed once Nolan is asleep.

Decor:

Decorating the boys room has been fun. We have a lot of little trinkets that we have gotten as gifts or for them specifically so we wanted to showcase those. I also wanted them to go together with out having to be too matchy matchy.

Nolan’s room has been pretty much the same since he was born, but I found the amazing hand painted stay wild poster with the fox and loved the woodland animals theme.

We didn’t find out Bryce was a boy until the day he was born so the gender neutral theme I went with was leaves and natural colors. When he was born it was the leaves and then a lot of green. That worked perfect with what was already in Nolan’s room (and I usually picked blue for Nolan for Autism and because I liked it anyway)

Organization:

Organizing 2 boys in drastically different sizes took some creativity but I think I got it. Top shelf is the diapers Nolan outgrew and the swim diaper he outgrew but are too big for Bryce. Their special bins of Hospital stuff, Sentimental stuff, and birthday shirts are also at the top. We keep the humidifier up there as well.

Next shelf down is Bryce’s Hello Bello subscription diapers, some sensory toys Nolan is not currently using, and then the bins for “Ties and Suspenders” and “hats.” These are a combo of the boys because it is obvious whose is whose or they can share. Nolan is on the left with hanging things, and the dresser. His clothes are bigger so they currently also carry over to the chevron bins. Stuffed Animal puppets from Great Uncle Collin are in the dump truck that we got from Great Grandma and Grandpa Loppnow. She got them for my little brothers too when they were little. Bryce is in the gray boxes and the hanging on the right.

The bin on the dresser says: Too Small. When they outgrow something, it is tossed in there until I take it to the basement to add it to the storage bins down there. On the far right, there is a bin that says “too big.” This is when we get something as a gift or on sale that is the next size up and it is not ready to be worn yet. These usually get hung but I may not have time to do that so they are stored here. Pack N Play is kept up here if I babysit or if Bryce has a horrible night he can be pulled into that in our room.

The white cabinet in the middle fluctuates. Currently, the top door is Bryce’s shoes and the bottom is Seasonal books. As a former early childhood teacher, I have a lot of books for each season/holiday because that is what was relevant to their lives. I switch these out seasonally so the kids can also read about what is relevant in their lives. Stella usually goes for one of those though sometimes we read the every day books on the shelves.
